BIG Liver Flush in Small Portions

Gradual liver flush

This liver flush is not for beginners or the faint of heart. But if you have a cleanse or two under your belt and feel comfortable with your response to the oil and citrus, you might give this one a try.

Two Cups of Olive Oil

This super big liver detox takes an enormous swig of olive oil: a full 2 cups (16 ounces). And you match that with an equal chug of citrus juice. Really.

Your All-Day Adventure, One Sip at a Time

Instead of drinking all the oil and citrus at once, you consume a small portion every 60 minutes for up to 16 hours, from morning until bedtime.

Jump Right In, No Prep Required!

No need for dietary restriction, Epsom salt water, or malic acid. But you do need to select a day when you can stay home and relax. (And maybe a good life coach or shrink.)

Big Liver Flush Recipe

* Any citrus fruit may be used, such as grapefruit, lemon, lime, or orange.

On an empty stomach first thing in the morning, drink 2 tablespoons oil and 2 tablespoons citrus. You can shake this together in a small jar with a tight-fitting lid. Or drink the oil first, followed by the juice. Repeat this every hour until you have consumed the full 2 cups oil and 2 cups citrus juice, 16 hours later. Larger portions may be consumed if you need to finish the cleanse more quickly.

How to Enjoy Your Big Day

For best results, stick with juice fasting or a liquid-only diet the day of your cleanse. The oil will limit your appetite quite a bit, and your GI tract will be busy just with that. As far as activities go, take it easy or be more active, but do stay home.

Calming Your Stomach or Gallbladder

If you get nauseous, sipping a little pineapple or tomato juice can help. For gallbladder discomfort or pain, try these remedies.

What to Know Before You Begin

Because no Epsom salt is used, it's hard to see your gallstones with this method unless you strain your bowel movements. Juice fasting the day of the cleanse can help.

Not Easy, But Definitely Big

I had many liver flushes under my belt before attempting this one. It's an intense experience even when you mostly know what to expect. My problem was that I hate drinking olive oil. And then I did it all day!

But if you like the olive oil and citrus, as many people do, you might have a really great time, one swig at a time.

Regardless of your take on the olive oil, a fresh approach keeps you energized and pressing ahead to the new and healthier you. It's possible. You can do it!
