This liver flush is not for beginners or the faint of heart. But if you have a cleanse or two under your belt and feel comfortable with your response to the oil and citrus, you might give this one a try.
This super big liver detox takes an enormous swig of olive oil: a full 2 cups (16 ounces). And you match that with an equal chug of citrus juice. Really.
Instead of drinking all the oil and citrus at once, you consume a small portion every 60 minutes for up to 16 hours, from morning until bedtime.
* Any citrus fruit may be used, such as grapefruit, lemon, lime, or orange.
On an empty stomach first thing in the morning, drink 2 tablespoons oil and 2 tablespoons citrus. You can shake this together in a small jar with a tight-fitting lid. Or drink the oil first, followed by the juice. Repeat this every hour until you have consumed the full 2 cups oil and 2 cups citrus juice, 16 hours later. Larger portions may be consumed if you need to finish the cleanse more quickly.
For best results, stick with juice fasting or a liquid-only diet the day of your cleanse. The oil will limit your appetite quite a bit, and your GI tract will be busy just with that. As far as activities go, take it easy or be more active, but do stay home.
Because no Epsom salt is used, it's hard to see your gallstones with this method unless you strain your bowel movements. Juice fasting the day of the cleanse can help.
