Kidney Health Connection

Kidney health

Kidney health, or the lack therefore, can easily make or break us. And it is more fragile than we realize.

Filtering around 200 quarts of blood every day, the kidneys remove waste products and excess water while maintaining appropriate levels of potassium, phosphate, and calcium. They also help regulate blood pressure, electrolytes, and the acid/base balance in the body.

When kidney health is poor, it is never an isolated matter. Unhealthy blood and fluid levels circulate to every organ, harming the entire body.

Kidneys Problems Are Often Unnoticed

If the kidneys suddenly stop functioning, a condition known as acute renal failure, something must be done right away to prevent death. We all understand that. But lesser forms of kidney disease are more common and easily missed.

Kidney Disease Symptoms

  • Urine that smells bad or is cloudy or discolored
  • Excessively dry and itchy skin
  • Difficult, painful, frequent, or urgent urination
  • Chronic nagging muscle aches and pains.
  • Water retention, especially in the feet and ankles
  • Fatigue or not feeling well

Kidney stones can be present and even passed without symptoms. Or you may have nagging low back pain  with the passage of tiny crystals from the kidneys through the ureters. Symptoms of passing larger kidney stones include sharp cramping-type pain in the area of the kidneys, lower abdomen, or groin and sometimes nausea or vomiting.

What Causes Kidney Stones?

There are many factors believed to play a role in kidney stone formation - and many mysteries. What causes kidney stones in one person may have no impact on the next.

Kidney Stone Types and Causes

Calcium oxalate stones are most common. Going on a low-oxalate diet is sometimes recommended for prevention, but this a matter for debate.

Calcium phosphate stones are the second most common type of stone. Calcium was once blamed for causing them, but not anymore. In any event, dietary calcium is better for kidney health than taking a supplement,

Struvit stones go hand in hand with urinary tract infection. The same bacteria that cause the infection produce the stones.

Uric acid stones are formed in acidic urine. You can test your body's pH level with urine test strips. An acidic condition can produce such stones and lead to other disease in the body.

Cystine and other types of stones come from metabolic dysfunction.

How to Improve Kidney Health

Cleansing will improve kidney health and even dissolve stones, especially combined with a healthy diet and making filtered water your beverage of choice. Drinking pure water is one of the smartest things you can do, as long as you don't drink too much.

Improve kidney health through a kidney cleanse and diet

Cola, cocoa, and brewed tea have all been linked to kidney stones. Sweetened drinks are very hard on the kidneys (and waistline).

Make sure you eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit but little processed food.

Eating too much animal protein can contribute to kidney stones, and so can diets high in sodium and sweets (including fruit juice). Anything sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup or other artificial sweetener should be considered poison, because it is.

Through cleansing and improving your diet, real healing can happen - and that's great news for your entire body.
